All The Info

In assessing what's important to me, I have to start with what's important to the people who live in White City. The Mayor, Council and Administration all have a responsibility to serve the community, and that starts with listening - not telling. The vitality of the community is driven by its citizens and their need to be given the opportunity to be heard and their concerns to be acted upon.

As someone who has lived in White City for over 25 years, I certainly have my own thoughts, ideas, and biases, but I'm but one voice among many. I've learned a lot over the years - but I certainly don't know it all. In saying that, I'm reminded of the following quote:

"None of us is as smart as all of us." -- Kenneth H. Blanchard

In keeping with the above, my priorities start with continuing to enhance communication and engagement with residents in order to best ensure the Town is listening to and meeting the needs of the community - as well as communicating what the Town is doing and why. There are other priorities, of course, so I offer this only as a starting point:

Priorities:

  1. Communication: Continue enhancing communication and transparency between the Town (and its residents

  2. Annexation: Continue with proposed annexation

  3. Development: Promote growth and development of the community

  4. Relationships: Strengthen relationships and collaboration with nearby communities

  5. Zoning Bylaws: Complete the long overdue review, particularly: a) comparability to nearby communities; b) simplification; c) rationalization with those applicable to annexed areas

  6. Pedestrian and Traffic Safety: Speeding, irresponsible drivers, enforcement

  7. Water and Sewer: Continue focus on rates

  8. Schools: Work with the Ministry of Education, Prairie Valley School Division, and the RM of Edenwold to build new elementary and high schools in the WC area

  9. Taxes: Rationalize taxes while maintaining services to residents

  10. Recreation Facility: Continue plan on an “as needed / affordable” basis
